  3. Literary Ladies Book Club

    Our September book is The Excellent Lombards by Jane Hamilton. Frankie and her brother have grown up on the apple farm, and love the way of life there, but things are about to change for the Lombards and maybe for Frankie too. The October book is The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden. Set in Russia long ago, Vasilisa grows up hearing fairy tales from her nurse. After her mother dies, her father marries again and tension grows between the old ways and the Christian ways. The Literary Ladies Book Club meets the third Monday of each month in the Board Room of the main branch at the Franklin location. The Board Room is on the second floor of the library. The book group reads all genres and non-fiction too! We welcome new members.

  7. Retired Lt. Colonel Herman Statum and the Vietnam War

    September 21, 2019, 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM @ Meeting Room

    Herman Statum will be speaking about the Vietnam War and his personal experiences in the meeting room on the first floor. Mr. Statum is a combat veteran who served two tours in Vietnam in 1966-67 and 1971-72. He was an Airborne, Ranger and Special Forces officer with a Top Secret security clearance. Mr. Statum’s military service includes 11 years overseas in Vietnam combat units. He is currently a recognized authority on homeland security with four years on the Executive Advisory Board of the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security.

Arming you with the skills and knowledge to search successfully is our goal in this introductory class. Ancestry.com is one of the most powerful and user friendly genealogy tools available, and patrons can access the world version free with a WCPL card, within the Library! This guided introduction will cover the basics of using Ancestry.com to search through census and other records to find your ancestors, as well as a few tips and tricks to help get more accurate results from your searches. *Basic experience in using a computer and mouse is necessary to follow along in this class. If using a computer is new to you, please contact the Reference Department for Introduction to Computer classes.
