ASSISTANCE AT THE LIBRARY

The Williamson County Public Library will again provide basic IRS tax forms to patrons this year.

FORMS FOR TAX YEAR 2016 CURRENTLY AVAILABLE AT THE MAIN LIBRARY IN FRANKLIN:

  • Form 1040
  • Form 1040 Instruction books [ON ORDER]
  • Form 1040 A
  • Form 1040 A Instruction books
  • Form 1040 EZ
  • Form 1040 EZ Instruction books
  • Form 1099
  • Form 1096
  •  
    These are the only Federal forms provided to the Library by the IRS.
    Most schedules and forms that will not be available in paper form at the Library can be downloaded and printed from the IRS website (www.irs.gov). Reference staff will help you download and print forms at the Library for 10 cents a page.

    TAX PREPARATION ASSISTANCE FROM VITA/UNITED WAY AT MAIN BRANCH IN FRANKLIN

    VITA will provide tax assistance by appointment at the Williamson County Public Library's main branch in Franklin for families earning $64,000 or less from Saturday, January 28 through Monday, April 17. VITA hours in Franklin are:

  • Monday 9:00am - 12:00pm
  • Wednesday 3:30pm - 7:00pm
  • Saturday 9:00am - 12:00pm
  •  
    Exceptions:

    Monday, February 20: NO VITA because the Library is closed for Presidents' Day
    Saturday, April 15: VITA's extended hours are 9:00am - 4:00pm

    What to Bring With You
    :
    • Photo ID for both spouses (if filing jointly)
    • Last's year's tax return (helpful in explaining difference in refund amounts, consistent filing, etc.)
    • Social Security Cards or ITIN Cards for all family members on return. No photocopies of cards allowed!
    • Proof of income (a W2 for each employer during the tax year, 1099s, Social Security Income, Unemployment, Interest, and other income statements)
    • Direct Deposit Information (proof of account needed such as a checkbook. Most banks do not give account numbers out over the phone!)
    • Healthcare Form 1095
    • Proof of expenses if claiming any (childcare expenses, education expenses, medical expenses, property tax, itemized deductions, etc.)
    • Proof of mileage if claiming any (Must be a written record. Please total any business expenses before arriving.)
    • Both spouses must be present if filing a joint return

    After you have met with a tax assistance volunteer, you may need additional help filling out tax forms or answering tax questions.

    Tennessee Taxpayer Project

    Still having a Federal Tax problem? You could get FREE help from the Tennessee Taxpayer Project, a low income taxpayer clinic offered by the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee.

    Services include:

    • Answering tax questions
    • Helping with IRS Audits or Exams
    • Settling tax debts
    • Stopping tax liens and levies
    • Representing people in Tax Court (deficiency notices, etc.)
    • Keeping you from paying all the back taxes owed by both you and your husband or wife (Innocent Spouse Relief)
    • Getting back your part of the tax refund (Injured Spouse Claims)
    • Appealing Earned Income Tax Credit turn downs
    • Proving you are an employee, not an independent contractor

    Tax Assistance for Taxpayers with Disabilities

    The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) provides online tax products and services fortaxpayers with disabilities. Individuals may visit the IRS Accessibility page (www.irs.gov/uac/IRS.gov-Accessibility) to download forms, publications, and other products and to access tax-related videos in English and American Sign Language. The IRS recommends checking the website often as it is continuously adding more products to assist persons with disabilities.
