Celebrate the legacy of formerly enslaved Sol House. Sol served in the Civil War in the Confederate Army with his enslaver Dr. Isaac S. House, and after became a farm manager on the Samuel S. House and W. D. Neely farms. His daughter Amy House Hughes took care of him in his old age with her husband. Two of her children, Maggie Bell Hughes Patton and Henry Lee Hughes, had several descendants who became educators and engaged citizens. Over two hundred years, over seventy of Sol House's descendants will be honored in this exhibit. This exhibit includes over 150 photographs displayed in the Special Collections Department, in the Reference Department, and in both of the first-floor and second-floor elevator display cases.
The exhibit is sponsored by the African American Heritage Society of Williamson County. The photographs will be added to the library's Thelma Battle Photographic Collection which is housed in the Special Collections Department on the second floor.
