Class Descriptions

  • Appy Hour: With millions of apps available for smartphone and tablet users, choosing the best apps for your purposes can be overwhelming. The best way to discover a great app is from a friend's recommendation. So, we are inviting new smartphone and tablet users and pros to join us for an Apple and Android app mixer. Bring your device and your favorite apps! Library staff will share their favorite reading apps, as well as apps for daily fun and practical use.
  • Editing Digital Photographs: Learn basic digital photograph terminology, uploading and downloading, editing tips and tricks, and explore the free online photo editing features on Canva.com. Be sure to bring your digital camera and connector, or a USB or CD with photographs so that you have something to practice with during the class.
  • i-101: Do you have or are you thinking about getting an iPad or iPhone? Come learn some of the basics. This round table will cover searching, installing and removing apps, creating folders, and more.
  • Introduction to Ancestry.com: Ancestry.com is one of the most powerful and user-friendly genealogy tools available, and patrons can access it free with a library card in the library or at one of our branches. This guided introduction will cover the basics of using Ancestry.com to search through census and other records to find your ancestors, plus tips to help get more accurate results from your searches. Prerequisites include Introduction to the Computer class.
  • Introduction to the Computer: Can't tell your hardware from your software or your mouse from your monitor? Beginners can learn about the parts of computers and the Windows operating system – the basics needed to start using a computer. This class is for those with very limited or no experience with computers. It is not a typing or keyboarding class.
  • Introduction to Facebook Profiles: For those with little or no experience using Facebook. It covers basic Facebook features such as setting up a profile, creating a status update, uploading photos, and privacy settings.
  • Introduction to Gmail: Covers folders, address book, and email terminology and etiquette. Participants learn how to create, delete, and basic email commands. Prerequisites include Introduction to the Computer.
  • Introduction to Microsoft Excel Basics:An introduction to Excel in three classes for those with little to no experience using spreadsheets. Participants will create a basic spreadsheet, perform simple formatting (alignment, numbers, font style, and size), sort, print, and save a spreadsheet. Prerequisites include Introduction to the Computer class or equivalent skills; experience with Microsoft Word is preferred.
    • Introduction to Microsoft Excel Basics I: For those with no experience.  Covers the basic parts of an Excel spreadsheet including the ribbon, entering data, and cell formatting.
    • Introduction to Microsoft Excel Basics II: For those with some experience with basic spreadsheets. This class offers an introduction to formatting the data entered, sorting, printing, and saving. Prerequisites include Introduction to Microsoft Excel I class or equivalent skills and experience with Microsoft Word.
    • Introduction to Excel III: For those with some experience with basic spreadsheets. This class offers an introduction to basic formulas (add, subtract, divide, and multiply). Participants will create a basic budget spreadsheet, learn how to use cell references, and absolute cell references. Prerequisites include Introduction to Microsoft Excel I class or equivalent skills and experience with Microsoft Word. Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint: Participants create a PowerPoint show while learning the basics of creating a PowerPoint slide show, from changing the slide background and colors to adding clip art and sounds. Prerequisites include an Introduction to the Computer class or equivalent skills; and experience with Microsoft Word or equivalent skills.
  • Introduction to Microsoft Word I: For those with limited experience using word processing software. Participants will learn the basics of formatting using the Home ribbon commands and more. This is not a typing or keyboarding class. Prerequisites include Introduction to the Computer class or the equivalent skills. 
  • Introduction to Microsoft Word II: This class is for people with some experience using word processing software. Covers lists, columns, and tables. This is not a typing or keyboarding class. Prerequisites include Introduction to Microsoft Word I class or the equivalent skills.
  • Libby App: Thousands of eBooks and more can be borrowed from the library with the Libby database app for R.E.A.D.S.! Library staff will introduce you to the free app, teach how to log in, navigate it,  and show you how to borrow from the online library. Bring your tablet or smartphone, any relevant passwords for your app store if you haven't downloaded it, and your library card.
  • Surfing the Web 101: Learn the basics of navigating the web. We will introduce you to web browsers and search engines, teach you how to search online, and how to evaluate what you find online. Prerequisites include Introduction to the Computer class or the equivalent skills.
